We have visited nearly every fine restaurant in Annapolis, some of which we have reviewed in prior issues of Annapolis Home. When we are reviewing a restaurant, we do not announce ourselves in advance. We offer you here our ranking of the best restaurants in Annapolis and the surrounding cities, along with a description of why they made it to the top ten Annapolis Home best restaurant list. One observation: many people are looking for heart-healthy options on the menu (i.e., little or no sodium, sugar, butter and oils, and low fat). Such menu options are extremely rare to find but you can always make a special request when you order.
Arturo’s Trattoria
Tucked away in Glen Burnie in an unassuming strip mall, Arturo’s chefs are busy rolling our magnificent lobster ravioli, manicotti, and other fine dishes; you will receive a seriously Italian dinner, free of American-Italian compromises.
Carrol’s Creek Cafe
We searched our city high and low for the freshest rockfish and found it at Carrol’s Creek, along with superior roast oysters and crab cakes: a golden trio for the palate.
Flamant
Are you in West Annapolis or a romantic bistro in Antwerp? You decide while Belgian chef-owner Frederik De Pue serves up delicacies such as skate wing meuniere with lump crab meat, macadamia almond, and cauliflower carpaccio or hearty roast
pheasant.
Vin 909 WineCafé
This quaint Eastport bungalow is heaven-sent, with fine craft vintages, angelic pizza, and food sourced from local soils and seas. Unfortunately, they don’t take reservations so it’s hard to plan a dinner out with guests.
Osteria 177
At Osteria on Main Street, savor succulent Northern Italian-style meats and simple penne with vodka sauce; even the Caesar salad is a feast for the senses.
Café Bretton
During the winter, you’ll find a crackling wood fire in the dining room, superb meats and fish, especially the Steak Au Poivre and Chilean sea bass.
Severn Inn
Watch the Wednesday night sailboat races and osprey diving for dinner at this restaurant almost eye-level with the Bay, across from the Naval Academy. Mouth-watering entrees and appetizers can be savored inside or on the deck in nice weather.
Soul
This hip low-lit restaurant serves true soul food and fun contemporary variations, including collards, fried chicken, and roasted oysters. Their hand-made sodas and cocktails attest to its individuality.
Basmati
Elegant waiters offer impeccable service at Annapolis’ finest Indian restaurant, where you will find magnificent curries and Tandoori lamb chops with complex flavors in perfect balance.
Caliente Grill
Spunky and authentic, this bright little Latin café serves thick cuts of meat, steaming hand-made tortillas, and Latin fare; their specials taste straight from a grandmother’s kitchen.
