The foyer does it all. It is the first room anyone steps into when entering your home and is a place to welcome visitors. It sets the stage for what is to come next. I like to call it the unofficial introduction to a home’s overall design style.
When you are thinking about foyer design, the first thing to do is to consider the activities that go on when you and others enter your home. Figure out what space, furniture, and storage are needed to make everything flow smoothly. Then, you can nail down that important “first impression.”
I always suggest a piece of furniture, lighting, mirror, art, sculpture, wall finish, or all of the above. Choose things that you like and that reflect your lifestyle.
This foyer expresses the homeowners’ free-spirited style and openness to experimentation. The monochrome wall design (done by Christine Nicole Productions) is a perfect backdrop for a simple modern sculptural oversized center table. This houses many collectible items along with a vintage brass table lamp. Always, there are fresh flowers. When one enters, one senses what the homeowner is all about and the great attention to detail. To the right of the foyer are two colorful artworks. These invite your discovery and set the tone for a love for art that is also a huge part of the representation of
this home.
Your foyer presents a great opportunity so have fun with it. Remember, you never get a chance to make another first impression. Regardless of the size, it is one of the best places to express yourself and introduce your visitors to what is waiting for them behind the other walls.
